Conservatory Canada Improvisation interactive Webinars Fall 2012: David Story Workshops

The six sessions will cover teacher strategies and lesson plans to assist your students to feel both confident and pleased with the improvisation component in Conservatory Canada Contemporary Idioms.

  • Session 1 - Levels 1 and 2
  • Session 2 - Levels 3 and 4
  • Session 3 - Levels 5 and 6
  • Session 4 - Levels 7 and 8
  • Session 5 - Level 9
  • Session 6 - Level 10

Mr. Story will present simple lessons plans, apps, and web assets for both the professional development of Teacher and Student. We will work with a Blues and Free Improvisation approach. Step one will be to dispel the myths of what improvisers actually do.

This will help everyone feel much more confident with this activity.

Topics include:

  • Blues scales
  • Blues licks
  • Chord voicings appropriate for each level
  • Web resources
  • iPhone and iPad apps!
  • Playing from a fake book 101
  • In the upper levels “Jazz Piano 101”

Any such sessions for summer 2013?

I was away for the webinar I wanted to attend. Are they going to run them again?

What equipment do I need to be able to participate in this?

I am in the same boat as many of the previous people. I am not able to be here for the webinars. Can I please purchase these webinars on a DVD? I would very much like to learn from him!

Michelle Pawson

I too would love to purchase recordings of the webinars if possible as my schedule doesn't allow me to attend. Please let me know if this is available. (

Will it be possible to purchase them as DVD's, as I am unable to do the webinars?
Would be great if you could.

Just what is needed for Contemporary Idioms

Will you remind me of the dates and time somewhere in this article or here on your site? Thanks

The sessions are every Wednesday at 11:00am EST.  The last session is December 19th, 2012.

Wow-- this will be exciting as David Story is an excellent presenter!! I gained so much information from the last session I attended of his that I would not miss this one!

Gloria Jean Nagy

sounds good.
a question though - I have a VERY old computer - going on 9 years, and an IPad 1. both do not have cameras, so are not skype comatible except through sound.
are you posting this on youtube or something like that that I'll be able to access?
My IPAD of course is a little newer.

What a great way to learn more, and be at home! I struggle with the improv part of the exams so any new ideas can only help my students.

Ditto that... I can hardy wait... nice going, CC.

This sounds very interesting ...I can't wait

I can't attend, but I'm very interested. Is there any way to view the session at a later date?
Thank you
